Certified Organic. 60/40 Garnatxa & Cari¤ena. 26 year-old Garnatxa @ 425 m on top of a windy ridge on petrified sand dunes and iron-rich calcareous clay. 31 year-old Cari¤ena @ 330 m on rocky calcareous clay. The different microclimates ripen garnatxa and cari¤ena together so they can be co-fermented in underground cement vats called trulls that his grandparents built. Must is retrieved bucket by bucket, pressed and transferred to the next vat where it ages on the fine lees 5 months. Absolute minimal filtration, bottled with no additions of any kind including SO2.
Francesc Ferre’s family has been farming grapes organically in Corbera d’Ebre for over 200 years, but only just began making wine in 2009 with then 21 year-old Francesc at the helm, fresh out of school. Corbera’s combination of hot, dry days in the Mediterranean sun, evening marinada onshore wind, and cool nights at Corbera’s high elevation allows grapes to maintain their acidity in otherwise arid conditions and makes it an ideal place to grow fresh, vivacious garnatxa.
