Description

Mauri Vermouths are complex formulas that incorporate a blend of wines from various regions, and infusions of provincial spices, and flavors. The dry has flavors of freshly cut French herbs, thyme, tarragon and rosemary, along with salt covered stones and aromatic spices like saffron.

In response to this resurgence, the traditional vermouth recipes of the Maurin distillery have been revived for a new line of Maurin Vermouth. These recipes, dating back to the late 1800s and the start of the Maurin brand, are complex formulas that incorporate a blend of wines from various regions, and infusions of provincial spices and flavors such as coriander, cinnamon, gentian, cloves, nutmeg, dry oranges, caramel, absinthe, green cardamom, and lemon.

The late 19th century marked the significant rise of French aperitifs, which were considered energizing, refreshing, healthy tonics. Auguste Maurin founded his distillery in 1884 in the picturesque city of Le Puy-en-Velay, in south-central France. While Auguste produced a range of spirits, including gentiane, absinthe, vermouth and a selection of local, traditional liqueurs, his focus was on the quinine-based Maurin Quina, which had an outstanding reception in wine and spirits exhibitions of the time, awarded some 26 gold medals. The high praise continues today.
