Description
Hand harvest of selected clusters from old vines (+ 70 years old), planted with
a mix of native varieties (more than 20), being Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz and
Rufete, the main varieties. The vineyards are located in the sub-region of
Cima-Corgo (Alijó) and are at an average altitude of 500-600 meters, growing
in schist and granite derived soils. Grapes were picked in September and October 2009, 85% destemming with minimal crushing and a long fermentation in small “lagares” with temperature control. Malolactic fermentation in new and used French Oak barrels (25% new) followed by a 22 month ageing. Bottled in November of 2011 with a minimum of 24 months ageing in bottle.
